Celebrate the creativity and traditions of Día de Muertos with a hands-on, two-day papier-mâché workshop at the Matías Romero Creative Lab, presented by the Mexican Cultural Institute in Washington, D.C.
Led by Mexican artist Ana Elisa Romo, this workshop invites participants to explore the art of cartonería, a traditional Mexican craft, while creating their very own 12-inch (30 cm) Catrina. Inspired by the iconic figures associated with Día de Muertos, you’ll have the opportunity to bring your Catrina to life with your own artistic touches.
The workshop takes place on Monday, October 26, and Wednesday, October 28, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 PM each day. It is held at the Matías Romero Creative Lab, located within the Mexican Cultural Institute at 2829 16th Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20009.
The registration fee for this workshop is $95. All workshop materials are included in the fee, with the exception of decorative ornaments. No matter your artistic background, this is an opportunity to connect with Mexican folk art and learn a traditional craft.
