Mwo-Owwa Wdc, Facc Empower Women Migrant Workers Through Culinary and Nutrition Class

About

The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Washington, DC, in partnership with the Filipino American Cancer Care (FACC), hosted a specialized cooking and nutrition class for members of the Organization of Filipino Private Staff (OFPS) in the D.C., Maryland and Virginia (DMV) area. This practical capacity-building initiative aimed to empower women migrant workers by enhancing their culinary skills and deepening their understanding of healthy nutrition.

Labor Attaché Saul De Vries welcomed participants, emphasizing the cultural significance of food preparation for Filipinos as a way of demonstrating love and bringing people together. He also thanked FACC and Chef Evelyn Bunoan for their support, noting the program's alignment with FACC’s advocacy for cancer survivors.

Welfare Officer Mae Codilla highlighted the unique opportunity for OFPS members to learn from Chef Evelyn Bunoan, a Le Cordon Bleu-trained culinary expert with Master Chef certificates in French Culinary Arts and Patisserie. Chef Evelyn, founder of the Cancer Help Eat Well (CHEW) Foundation, guided attendees through essential culinary techniques, stressing the importance of fresh, natural ingredients and proper nutrition for overall well-being. FACC officers, led by Founder and President Josie Moralidad Ziman, also assisted with event operations and provided entertainment.
