Cherry Blossom Matsuri Festival was a free cultural event hosted by the Embassy of Japan in Washington, D.C. It took place on Sunday, April 12, 2026 at 11:00 AM. Admission was free. Nearest Metro: 15-min walk from Dupont Circle (Red).

About

Experience the beauty of Japanese spring culture at this Cherry Blossom Matsuri Festival, celebrating the traditional customs that make sakura season so special in Japan. The Embassy of Japan invites visitors to immerse themselves in authentic Japanese arts and traditions.

The festival features hands-on ikebana (flower arranging) workshops where you can learn the meditative art of Japanese floral design, alongside traditional tea ceremony demonstrations that showcase the precise, graceful rituals of this ancient practice. The rhythmic power of taiko drumming will fill the air, offering a dynamic contrast to the more contemplative activities.

Authentic Japanese street food will be available throughout the event, giving visitors a taste of the flavors that accompany matsuri (festival) celebrations in Japan. This free celebration runs from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Embassy of Japan on Massachusetts Avenue, offering an accessible way to experience Japanese culture during Washington's own cherry blossom season.
