The Zingaresca Ensemble returns to La Maison Française with Songs of Passion and Love, a vibrant concert continuing The Russian Chamber Art Society's 20th Anniversary celebration. This captivating performance blends Russian, Romani, and Yiddish musical traditions in a heartfelt exploration of love and longing.
The ensemble features mezzo-soprano Alina Nazarevich, baritone Anton Belov, guitarists Vadim Kolpakov and Oleg Timofeyev, and percussionist Julie Angelis Boehler. Formed in 2006, the group takes its name from the Italian word "Zingaresca," meaning "in a Gypsy style." The ensemble emerged from collaboration between Romani virtuoso Vadim Kolpakov, seven-string guitar revival pioneer Oleg Timofeyev, and Juilliard-trained baritone Anton Belov.
Zingaresca interweaves classical Eastern European guitar heritage with the finest traditions of the Romani and Jewish diaspora, blending classical sophistication with the fiery vitality of folk musical expression. This unique fusion creates an evening of passionate musical storytelling that celebrates diverse cultural traditions.
Attendees should allow extra time for security check-in and bring valid photo ID plus their Eventbrite ticket. Large bags, umbrellas, backpacks, and bike helmets are not permitted on embassy grounds. No on-site parking is available, but metered street parking and garage options are nearby.
