Mexico at the AFI Latin American Film Festival 2026

About

The AFI Latin American Film Festival, one of North America's largest and longest-running showcases of Latin American cinema, returns for its 37th year. This festival is a highlight of Washington's cultural calendar, featuring award-winning films, engaging conversations with filmmakers, and exciting embassy-hosted parties.

This year, the festival celebrates Ibero-American cultural connections during National Hispanic Heritage Month, with films from Spain and Portugal joining the lineup. Mexico is proudly represented with several films, including "OLMO."

"OLMO" is a wry yet sincere coming-of-age tale from Mexican filmmaker Fernando Eimbcke. Set in 1979 New Mexico, the film boasts a vibrant, sun-drenched color palette and a killer disco soundtrack. It follows teenager Olmo (Aivan Uttapa) as he navigates adult responsibilities and the allure of adolescent freedom over the course of a single day.

Admission to the festival is free. For more details and to RSVP, please visit the provided link. The festival takes place at the Mexican Cultural Institute, located at 2829 16th St NW, Washington, DC 20009.
