Discover the fascinating culture of the Haenyeo, Jeju Island's renowned women free divers, in this special exhibition presented by the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C. in collaboration with the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province.
Haenyeo: The Breath of Jeju offers an in-depth look at the lives of these remarkable women, their unique diving practice known as , and their sustainable way of living in harmony with the sea. The exhibition highlights the strong community traditions built on cooperation and the sharing of knowledge across generations, a cultural heritage inscribed on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016.
Visitors can explore authentic diving suits and tools, informational panels, videos, and books. The exhibition also includes hands-on activities, providing an immersive opportunity to connect with the cultural heritage and community spirit of the Jeju Haenyeo.
The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular visitor hours at the Korean Cultural Center Washington, D.C., located on the first floor. No RSVP is needed; simply drop by to experience this unique cultural display.
