The Embassy of Germany's 40th Annual Lecture in Washington features Ned Blackhawk, Howard R. Lamar Professor of History at Yale University. Professor Blackhawk will present "Manifest Destiny's Myriad Influences: Native Americans and the Rise of Twentieth-Century Totalitarianism," a lecture that examines the global legacy of U.S. expansionism and its influence beyond North America.
Ned Blackhawk is an award-winning author and a member of the Te-Moak Tribe of the Western Shoshone Indians of Nevada. He is recognized as one of the leading voices in Indigenous history today. His recent work, , received the 2023 National Book Award for Nonfiction. A young readers' edition of this acclaimed book is also forthcoming.
The lecture takes place at GHI Washington, located at 1607 New Hampshire Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009. Doors open at 5:30 PM, and the lecture begins at 6:00 PM. For those unable to attend in person, the event will also be streamed online. Please note that this is a paid event.
