About

The Embassy of the Philippines in Washington, D.C. hosts a special screening of the documentary film "Unsurrendered 3" as part of Filipino American History Month. This event emphasizes the importance of preserving the stories of Filipino World War II heroes and reflecting on the shared history and enduring friendship between the Philippines and the United States.

Deputy Chief of Mission Felipe F. Cariño III welcomes guests, highlighting the significance of these historical narratives. Director Miguel “Lucky” Guillermo shares his journey in producing the documentary, underscoring his commitment to documenting firsthand accounts of World War II veterans and preserving the stories of Filipino freedom fighters for future generations.

Special guest Mark Andrew Kelso shares the story of his grandfather, Lt. Walter A. Kelso, Jr., a member of the U.S. Army Air Forces’ 19th Bombardment Group who served in the Philippines during World War II. Captured by Japanese forces in 1942, Lt. Kelso endured imprisonment in several prisoner-of-war camps before his death in Japan in 1945. His story honors the sacrifices of American servicemen and the shared wartime history of the Philippines and the United States.
